Feeling Safe & Sound

While having a security system is the best way to secure your home from burglary, a thief may think they can get around it. Just having a burglar attempt to break in can be as frightening as if they were successful. There are a few things you can do to help prevent burglary attempts and help you feel more secure.

Defend your home from a quick entry.

  • Having layers of defense is a great way to discourage a would be burglar. Having rosebushes outside along with double-locking your windows can be a good way to defend yourself from quick break-in 

Pretend to be a burglar

  •  Walk around your house and look for vulnerable areas. Make sure these areas are secure and inaccessible by burglars.

Brace door frames and use multiple locks

  •  Bracing a door frame and help prevent burglars from kicking the door in. Also, use at least two locks on outside doors and make sure they can't be pried open by using a knife or a screwdriver.

Use motion detectors around the outside of your house

  •  Lights are a burglar's enemy. They don't like being in the spotlight when trying to break into a house. The driveway is usually the only place people have motion detectors, leaving the sides and backyard vulnerable.

Keep your yard clean

  • This may not seem like much but a dirty yard can mean that the owner isn't home enough to do yard work or even invest in a security system.
