Pretend to be a burglar
- Walk around your house and look for vulnerable areas. Make sure these areas are secure and inaccessible by burglars.
Brace door frames and use multiple locks
- Bracing a door frame and help prevent burglars from kicking the door in. Also, use at least two locks on outside doors and make sure they can't be pried open by using a knife or a screwdriver.
Use motion detectors around the outside of your house
- Lights are a burglar's enemy. They don't like being in the spotlight when trying to break into a house. The driveway is usually the only place people have motion detectors, leaving the sides and backyard vulnerable.
Keep your yard clean
- This may not seem like much but a dirty yard can mean that the owner isn't home enough to do yard work or even invest in a security system.
