Monitoring Your Business

Monday, 28 September 2009 18:54 by admin

According to the U.S. Department of Commerce 50 billion dollars are lost annually due to employee dishonesty which includes theft of cash, merchandise, and office supplies as well as faked on-the-job injuries and even overpaying costumers and pocketing the cash. Employee theft can be very small amounts of cash, food, or other things in your business or it could be grand theft. Now, 50 billion dollars is such a large number it might be difficult to get the cope of it. So how about this; the Department of Commerce also reports that one-third of all new businesses fail because of employee theft. That's one in three. If you're setting up a new business there's a excellent chance you'll go under not because you have an inferior product or poor costumer relations but because of the people you hired Additionally about two percent of all business sales are lost to employee theft. And I don't have to tell you how that'll add up.

And the dishonest ones aren't always the ones you'd think. Very often they're model employees. They get in early, they stay late, and they're often friendly with their bosses. So you say 'No, problem, my employees will tell me about other employees stealing' but it's may not be that easy. According to the American Society of Employers 20% of employees are aware of fraud at their companies. Which isn't so surprising; people want to get along with their co-workers. It can be difficult to report theft discreetly, who can honestly say that want to be known as the company snitch?

Part of the solution to this problem is monitoring your business through a Closed Circuit TV Surveillance System. If your employees know there's CCTV they'll be disinclined to steal from the company, and if you don't want them to know about it, well, you'll be keeping an eye on them, so you get the benefit either way. Best of all, CCTV through Certified Security Systems can be monitored remotely by a third party so you can focus on your business. With one of these systems you'll have the peace of mind of knowing you can trust your employees and it'll save you a lot of money and heartache.

Physically Protect your Data

Tuesday, 15 September 2009 00:57 by admin
Computer users keep a lot of sensitive data like email, credit card numbers, and passwords on their machines as well as data that they just don't want to lose; everything from family photos, to music and videos. If you're heading out of town on vacation or a business trip you should secure your data either by leaving your computer with someone you trust or, if you don't use your computer for on line banking, taxes, or purchasing things on line, you can back up your data on a portable hard drive (many come bundled with back up software) and put the backup in a safe place, perhaps a security box at your bank. When you stop to consider how much time you put into your computer backing up it's data is a wise thing to do even if you have a good security system.

When Confronting Intruders

Tuesday, 15 September 2009 00:57 by admin
Though it may not always be unavoidable, try to not confront the intruders. Most of them would most likely run with what they have, but there are some who may have other intentions. You do not want to take this chance, especially if you have a family to protect. If you are confronted by the intruder with a weapon, stay calm and be cooperative. Hold your hands up to about your shoulder, this seems compliant but your hands are free and ready for defense.

Loose Lips Sink Ships

Tuesday, 15 September 2009 00:56 by admin
You've been waiting and saving all year for this; your vacation! The places you'll go, the things you'll see, the fun you'll have with your family and loved ones... you're probably tempted to tell everyone you know all about it in exacting detail. Right on down to your departure and return dates. But you should be careful about who you share this information with. A burglar could overhear you talking about your trip and know the perfect time to break into your house. You should also be careful about sharing trip information on your blog or other social networking site since it's not at all unusual for someone to be robbed after mentioning a trip on line.

Keep a Light On Without Leaving a Light On

Tuesday, 15 September 2009 00:55 by admin
Light timers, programmable devices that automatically turn the lights in your house on and off at specified times, are a great addition to any home defense system. Light timer either plug into the wall outlet or sit over the wall switch of the light they're controlling. Some timers can even be programed to turn lights on and off at a different time each day of the week. Use one of these timers to turn the lights on in your living room so that you're coming home to a dark house. When you go out of town install more of these devices around the house to give the impression that someone is home.

Escape or Fight?

Tuesday, 15 September 2009 00:52 by admin
Never take aggressive action unless you believe that you are in a life-threatening situation. Escape almost always is the better option. If the situation becomes violent and you have to defend yourself, use any hard object and aim for the eyes and throat. Hit as fast and hard as you can, do not worry about inflicting injury. This is now your chance to escape, do so with your family and get help. The intruder will most likely run at this point since they have been brought down and would rather flee than get caught with all the attention.

How Burglars Choose Their Victims

Tuesday, 15 September 2009 00:52 by admin

What makes a particular house stand out as a tempting target for burglars?

Homeowners should ask themselves the following questions to determine if their house is inviting to an unwelcome visitor:

  •  Is the house within three blocks of a major thoroughfare?
  •  Is the house on a cul-de-sac?
  •  Is the house adjacent to a wooded area, abandoned railroad tracks or park?
  •  Is the house relatively more expensive than the others in the neighborhood?
  •  Are the occupants of the house newcomers to the neighborhood (within the past year)?

If you answered “yes” to three or more of these questions, your house may be a prime target for burglary, according to Temple research findings.

Do alarms deter burglaries? It appears they do. The home without an alarm is nearly three times as likely to be burgled the study revealed.

Security Survey

Tuesday, 8 September 2009 01:39 by admin
Most local police will be able to offer a security survey or sweep of your house. They will usually send a security expert to come to your house, walk around the grounds with the owner, point out vulnerable areas and give you tips to better your home security. If they are busy or do not offer that type of service, they will probably give you booklets and papers on how you could do it yourself. Put yourself in a burglar's shoes. Where would you most likely break into your house? Circle your house a few times to make sure you don't miss anything important. Afterwards, start making your decisions on making your house more burglar-proof.

Most Effective Burglar Deterrent

Tuesday, 8 September 2009 01:36 by admin
The best burglar deterrent you can probably get is a dog. It doesn't have to be a guard dog, like a Doberman or a Rottweiler, it can even be a small watch dog. Any dog that will usually bark loud and menacingly will do the job. When a burglar tries to get near your house and hears a dog barking, it may not be that they're scared of your dog, they just don't want the attention around them that the dog is attracting. This will most likely scare them off and not wanting to try again. If you do not want to get a dog, it can't hurt to make it look like you do.
