Which Way Does Your Door Swing?

Thursday, 22 October 2009 22:33 by admin
All your outside doors should swing inwards towards the house and not outward. Doors that swing outwards have their hinges on the outside, which can easily be tampered with and removed. Most people don't think about this. After they have made sure the door has a lock, they usually move onto the next door or window. If your home actually does have hinges on the outside of the doors, be sure to install a locking pin on each of the doors to deter any thoughts about tampering with it.

Locking Your Windows

Thursday, 22 October 2009 22:32 by admin
Make sure all ground floor windows have locks on them. A window can easily be broken and climbed through. Most windows already have some type of locking system, these should be adequate, but if you want to go all out, you can invest in a shatter-proof window or some sort of hard to break window. Sliding glass doors are easily broken through also. Make sure they are secure and cant just be wiggled loose. Newer sliding doors have a built in 3-point locking system which are safer.

Don't Forget To Lock

Thursday, 22 October 2009 22:31 by admin
As simple as it sounds, you should get good locks for your doors. Add locks to every outside door including the garage, since that is the place that most break ins start from. Deadbolts should be a necessary part of your home security plan. Heavy duty locks like these, if installed properly, will go a long way towards keeping your home safe. Locks, along with doors that are made to resist break ins can really prevent someone unwanted to come inside your home.

Also that a home without a security system is three times more likely to be broken into. Make sure you don't end up regretting your decision, take some precautions just in case.

Get Your Own Watchdog!

Monday, 5 October 2009 19:51 by admin
Do you want a watchdog looking after your home at night without actually getting a dog? Well now you can! There are electronic watchdogs available that works off of sensors that you can set that allows it to “see” if there is someone coming towards your home. It is known that a dog's barking can deter a burglar away from your home, but unlike an actual watchdog, you can set its sensitivity and volume to your liking.
